Expansion of the Käppala Plant – NCC’s project in collaboration with Bygg Love
On behalf of the Käppala Association, NCC is carrying out an extensive expansion and modernization of the Käppala Wastewater Treatment Plant on Lidingö —one of Sweden’s largest wastewater treatment plants, which currently treats wastewater from over half a million residents in eleven municipalities in northern and eastern Greater Stockholm.
The purpose of the project is to increase capacity and upgrade treatment technology to meet future demands related to the environment, population growth, and climate change. The work includes, among other things, rock excavation for new underground basins, the construction of technical facilities and process plants, and the installation of advanced technology to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus emissions into the Baltic Sea.
This is a technically complex project being carried out in close proximity to a fully operational wastewater treatment plant, which places high demands on logistics, safety, and coordination. NCC is carrying out the work with a strong focus on sustainability, with material reuse, energy efficiency, and minimized climate impact as key elements.
The Role of Building Codes
Bygg Love joined the project in February 2025 and has since contributed its concrete expertise to the project organization. Our concrete workers are involved in the construction of new structures and civil engineering components that are crucial for increasing the efficiency of the treatment process.
Through our experience, professional expertise, and dedication, we are proud to contribute to one of the region’s most significant infrastructure projects—with the goal of creating a more sustainable society.
